ETL solutions

WareSoft has been writing programs to manipulate and interface data in one form or another for many years. Back in the early days, we wrote extract programs using COBOL or C. However, those years are now behind us and this is another area in IT that has seen significant growth in regards to techniques and tools available. ETL tools such as Informatica has refined the process for creating data interfaces. Writing an interface using an ETL tool becomes more of an exercise of data structure analysis and less of an exercise in creating complicated programming algorithms. Once the initial analysis of the input data structure and desired output structure has been completed, one can quickly create the data manipulation workflows.

WareSoft has recently delivered solutions where we utilized Informatica to build complex data interfaces between SAP and Oracle. We see the main benefits of using an ETL toolset as follows:

  • Provides a centralized & structured architecture.
  • Serves as a project & meta-data repository.
  • Provides change control management functionality.
  • Provides version control functionality.
  • Allows for programming language independence.
  • Provides the ability to create batch or real time data flows.
  • Allows simplistic dynamic data field modifications.
  • Robust IDE which allows for logical and conceptual viewing of Data Flow Diagrams.
  • Provides for debugging of functional segments.
  • Structure allows for process control & dependency identification.
  • Provides error control & notification functionality.
  • Provides data reject capture & logging functions.
  • Provides source data analytics.
  • Allows for phased implementations.
  • Contains robust data transformation functions.
  • Allows for a streamlined development effort.
